RVers – "How Do They Live Like That?"
PREFACE to E-book
Friends and fellow RVers keep asking why we changed RVers – How Do They
Live Like That? to an E-Book when the first printed edition sold out within a year. Like many
things in the book, the answer comes from our on-the-road experience, medical opinion, and
a dose of common sense.
We didn't expect the enthusiasm that greeted us. Like a lot of first-time authors, we thought
our friends and family would buy it and that would be the end of our publishing career.
RV book critics gave us favorable reviews and word-of-mouth promotion spread quickly
throughout the RV community while book retailers experienced steady sales.
We started giving seminars on the RV "Authors' Circuit," feeling happy yet stressed.
Eventually our "fork in the road" arrived in a hot dusty fairground in Redmond, Oregon,
at The Great American Rally where 12,000 eager RVers came for fun and education.
After finishing a seminar, one of us got chest pains and a hurried helicopter ride to a nearby
cardiac care unit. Luckily, her heart attack left no damage, but the doctors gave us a
message – one that we'd previously ignored: "Take it easy; take care of yourself!"
So we returned to our carefree life on the road, but requests for more books kept us on
edge. The prospect of a second printing and another year of busy marketing was too much.
We could only juggle so many balls without trading the comfort of our cosy rig for another jarring
helicopter ride.
The solution to our dilemma is the opportunity you have before you. We decided to
issue the book electronically. You can now download your copy and start reading, or order
a CD. The advantage to this edition is ease of storage, and, of course, less weight....and
safer RVing!
We are interested in your views about aging & RVing. After eleven years of full-timing,
we believe the modern RV is a means for a rich and fulfilling life, and we welcome your ideas
and suggestions since that second book lies waiting to be written just over the next hill.
