My View from the Dashboard
by Zac, The-Road-Cat
As you probably know, cats don't go in much for sentimentality, and as a tomcat (at least for my first six-weeks) I like to explore new places. I'm independent – make that VERY independent and I'm not impressed by much.
So I'll give you the straight scoop on RV life.
First, RV travel: It's a lot of responsibility for a cat. Every time we slow down to check into someplace new, I have to get off the driver's lap and sit behind the windshield TO MAKE SURE WE GET A GREAT SPOT. – I like grass (good for hair-balls) and trees to climb and sharpen my claws on.
Other RVers: I'm used to lots of attention, but I don't go for strangers picking me up or taking liberties until I make it clear that I want them to – and if the stranger is a hottie, I really enjoy it! I also like kids. I figure they are in the same boat as me – we have to pretty much do what the big people decide without much input from us, so I cut 'em a lot of slack.
Travel: I like being driven – it's in my blood. I've been a road-cat since I was just a kitten. I've always worn a halter, so I sleep in it just fine. I tolerate being out on a leash, but I like to wander around without one if it's a safe place, and that's what road cats do – check for safe parking.
Dogs: Dogs are okay, except the one's who bark and jump around – they freak me out! But my biggest pet peeve is a dog-owner who lets a dog run free. Dogs aren't smart enough to know how to avoid cars and trucks AND they don't even do their business in their own bathroom, for goodness sake. My cat-box is in a special place in my rig just for me. I wouldn't think of going anywhere else! Also, I'm a stickler for cleanliness. Why can't dogs learn to wash themselves? Just not smart enough, I guess. And another thing: Why do dogs insist on doing those dumb tricks? It makes us cats look uncooperative. Of course, I can sit and fetch and all that stuff, but why would I, just because someone tells me to? It makes me so mad. Because, then some people get the idea to try to get me and other cats to do it. Naturally, I'm way too smart for that!!!!
I'm thinking about dogs a lot because my drivers talk about getting one all the time. Not if I can help it! It takes a lot of manipulating on my part to keep that from happening. I guess it's healthy to exercise my cunning ability and superior brain power now & then.
So, if you have questions about RVing with pets and stuff, write to me, Zac, the Road-cat.
Best wishes for a future with plenty of Catnip,
ZAC
